LIVE: Senate briefing on Red Hill fuel tanks

KITV - March 7, 2014

The Hawaii Senate is having an informational briefing on the fuel leak at Red Hill on Friday at 1 p.m.

Some Hawaii lawmakers are calling a tour of the military underground fuel storage facility at Red hill "spooky."

Sen. Mike Gabbard says lawmakers toured Tank #5 where 27,000 gallons of jet fuel leaked back in January.

The Navy says that tank had just been put back into operation.

"We were very impressed with how open the Navy was in terms of transparency. They're not trying to hide anything," said Gabbard.

The focus now is how to prevent future leaks. Crews will be able to inspect the inside of the tank on April 7.
