Kapolei Interchange Complex on-ramps now open to public

HNN - May 16, 2011

A dedication ceremony was held Monday morning.Drivers in west Oahu will now have some much needed traffic relief. The new westbound freeway ramps at the Kapolei Interchange Complex are now open. A dedication ceremony was held Monday morning at the site and the ramps opened at 1 p.m. The $18.7 million project adds a new on-ramp at the Makakilo Drive and a new off-ramp leading to Farrington Highway which exits near the Wet 'N' Wild water park. "People have been waiting for so long, so when they see these very important roads open up it makes it easier for them to get stores where they're shopping. I can't tell you how many phone calls, e-mails that I've got saying thank you," said Sen. Mike Gabbard (D), Energy & Environment Committee Chair. The second half of this project phase includes eastbound ramps and the new Wakea Street extension, which is expected to open in August.
