During his years as a state legislator, Ed Case voted to raise fees and taxes 48 times:

2002
  1. 1. Senate Bill 2763 and House Bill 2502 - Increased the marriage tax.
  2. 2. Senate Bill 2732 - Increased the business registration fee.
  3. 3. House Bill 2506 - Increased the birth and death registration fee.
  4. 4. Senate Bill 733 - Increased employment training fund tax.
  5. 5. Senate Bill 2724 - Increased the real estate agents and brokers fee.
  6. 6. House Bill 1730 - Increased the driver's education fund fee.
  7. 7. Senate Bill 2786 - Increased the machine operators board fee.
  8. 8. House Bill 2741 – Increased cigarette tax.
  9. 9. Senate Bill 2416 and House Bill 2638 – Established task force to set up longterm care tax.
  10. 10. House Bill 1256 – Established 6.5 cent bottle tax.
2001
  1. 1. House Bill 594 – Established fees for continuing education courses.
  2. 2. Senate Bill 1011 – Provided that the office of planning may charge fees for
    statewide geographic information system services.
  3. 3. Senate Bill 1060 – Established fees for the examination and investigation of
    any escrow depository.
  4. 4. Senate Bill 1077 – Set fee for the registration of a trademark.
2000
  1. 1. House Bill 2643 – Allowed the counties to increase the cost of motor vehicle
    registration
  2. 2. Senate Bill 2879 – Established a motor vehicle surcharge.
  3. 3. Senate Bill 680 – Increased license fees for fireworks
  4. 4. Senate Bill 2186 – Established a licensing and service fee for reviewers of
    medical billing.
  5. 5. Senate Bill 2289 – Established a general excise tax on sales of
    telecommunications services.
  6. 6. Senate Bill 2486 – Established a cigarette tax through the use of stamps.
  7. 7. Senate Bill 2745 – Established a fee for animal and plant health diagnostic
    services.
  8. 8. Senate Bill 2945 – Established a public service company tax of 3.5 percent.
1999
  1. 1. House Bill 336 – Established a user fee for certified importers to obtain a permit
    to import microorganisms.
  2. 2. House Bill 602 – Increased the fee for the transfer of ownership of a trailer.
  3. 3. House Bill 1079 – Established filing and issuing fees for businesses to convert
    to a different type of business entity (i.e. – non-profit, etc.)
  4. 4. Senate Bill 44 – Established a use tax on products or services that are
    purchased or imported from unlicensed seller.
  5. 5. Senate Bill 788 – Established a cigarette tax through the use of stamps.
  6. 6. Senate Bill 1129 – Increased fees that people must pay for continuing
    education and license renewal
    for the insurance profession.
  7. 7. Senate Bill 1131 – Increased the fee that insurers have to pay to the insurance examiners revolving fund.
1998
  1. 1. House Bill 2552 – Increased fees for marriage licenses, filing fees for name
    changes and fees for duplication of government records.
  2. 2. Senate Bill 721 – Increased district court fees for filing a supreme court appeal.
  3. 3. Senate Bill 2259 – Increased transient accommodation tax from 6 to 7.25
    percent.
  4. 4. Senate Bill 2655 – Increased bicycle registration fee.
  5. 5. Senate Bill 3213 – Increased fee for a person to obtain an insurance license.
1997
  1. 1. House Bill 1829 – Increased fees for people to obtain certified copies of birth,
    marriage, and death certificates.
  2. 2. Senate Bill 717 – Established a filing fee that a person must pay when they file
    for a divorce, annulment, or separation.
  3. 3. Senate Bill 927 – Increased cigarette tax from 3 to 4 cents.
1996
  1. 1. House Bill 3399 – Increased fees for businesses to file documents with the state.
  2. 2. House Bill 3493 – Required the State to charge a fee to hospitals to receive a
    newborn screening kit.
  3. 3. House Bill 3648 – Increased the driver education fee
  4. 4. Senate Bill 1720 – Established fee for every limited liability and foreign limited
    liability partnership
    to pay when they register with the State.
  5. 5. Senate Bill 2090 – Increased fees for businesses to get a pesticide license.
  6. 6. Senate Bill 2340 – Established a hunting license fee that hunting guides have to
    pay for each nonresident hunter.
  7. 7. Senate Bill 2777 – Established fees for loans and other financial assistance.
  8. 8. Senate Bill 2848 – Established fees for businesses to obtain permits, certificates,
    and licenses for occupational safety.
1995
  1. 1. House Bill 1853 – Established fee for people to obtain criminal history record
    checks.
  2. 2. House Bill 1980 – Established fee for forensic examiners to apply for certification
    with the Department of Health.
  3. 3. Senate Bill 1559 – Increased fee related to the registration of motor vehicles.

  1. 1. According to the National Taxpayers Union, Case has voted to increase our taxes
    71% of time.

  1. 2. The Americans for Tax Reform report that Case voted in favor of tax-raising bills
    before Congress 80% of the time. Case also refuses to sign the Americans for Tax
    Reform Pledge not to raise federal taxes.

  1. 3. The Citizens Against Government Waste say Case is “Unfriendly to Taxpayers”
    and give him a rating of 21%--putting Case just two points above “Hostile to
    Taxpayers”.

  1. 4. The ultra-liberal Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) gave Case a rating of
    95% for his votes on social and economic issues. The ADA rates Case more liberal
    than John Edwards (65%) and more liberal than John Kerry (85%). On the “liberal
    scale”, Ed Case is tied with Ted Kennedy (95%).

Case's Congressional Voting Records
 
1. Case voted against permanently repealing the “death tax.” He voted to keep the death tax in place and establish a tax rate of 49%! U.S. House Bill 8 (6/18/03)

2. Case voted against the “Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act” that represented the most significant tax cut to American taxpayers in over 20 years that benefits small businesses and taxpayers alike. U.S. House Bill 2 (5/09/03)

3. Case voted against efforts to make it easier for families to make ends meet. He voted twice against a tax cut package in Congress that would have increased the child tax credit to $1,000. House Resolution 95 (3/21/03 and 4/11/03)

4. Case voted against the “Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2004” that protected eleven million American families from tax increases this year. U.S. House Bill 4227 (5/04/04)

5. Case voted to allow people who are overweight to sue restaurants for their obesity.

6.. Case’s voted to allow negligence lawsuits against firearm manufacturers and vendors when criminals use firearms illegally. U.S. House Bill 1036 (4/09/03)

7. Case voted against Medical Malpractice Reform aimed at reducing patient and taxpayer costs for health care. U.S. House Bill 5 (3/13/03)

8. Case’s voted in favor of spending millions of tax dollars on five “sex studies,” including a study of the “sex lives of American Indian and Alaskan Native lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and ‘two-spirited individuals’.” U.S. House Bill 2660 (7/10/03)

9. Case says the Number One problem facing America is out-of-control government spending. But Case voted against a bill requiring a ONE PERCENT cut in congressional spending. U.S. House Bill 2673 (7/14/03)

10. Case voted against the “Spending Control Act of 2004”, a recent effort by members of Congress to cut federal spending by placing a cap on how much of our money Congress can spend. U.S. House Bill 4663 (6/24/04)
